Course Content

This class will identify the necessary elements of an effective reliability program plan. Numerous class examples will provide a depth of understanding that allows the student to develop the best custom plan for their own company. Some of the topics covered are:
  • How to establish reliability numerical requirements based upon the needed field performance.
  • How to quantify the severe user and the severe usage profile.
  • Developing lab tests based upon the severe user.
  • AFD as an alternative to DFMEA for effective test planning.
  • Designing test flows to effectively manage test time.
  • Understanding how the reliability process can be effectively divided into Analytical, Developmental (Qualitative), and Validation (Quantitative) tasks.
  • Understanding the basics behind accelerated testing to reduce test time.
  • Using Stress-Strength Interference to relate “reliability on test” to “reliability in the field”
  • Preventing Quality Spills as a natural extension of the reliability process

About the Lecturer

Larry EdsonLarry Edson BSME, CQE
Larry is a Graduate of General Motors Institute (BSME), is a Certified Quality Engineer, and has 30 years of experience in the Quality/Reliability field. Larry introduced HALT to General Motors and to many of its suppliers. He has also co-taught with Gregg Hobbs on special occasions.
Larry has specialized in statistics, failure physics, and designed experimentation in pursuing a Master's Degree. Collectively, these topics and experiences form the foundation for much of his class.
Larry's work has been published through the Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers.
